Emerging from lockdown

We were delighted to re-open the practice on 8th June and start seeing and treating our valued patients once again. We were able to do this because we had spent most of lockdown planning, preparing, training the team and sourcing the correct PPE.

All of this meant that we were good to go. In the first week we saw patients who had emergencies during lock down. In week two we started on Dental Health Assessments and Gum Therapy appointments. Then from week three onwards we started doing Aerosol Generating Procedures (AGP’s).

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our patients who have supported us during this difficult time and have been amazing and so positive when they have come to see us at the surgery. We are working hard to catch up missed appointments for our members.

Our new normal is not easy, due to restrictions and guidelines many of our customer care services have been put on hold. We find it very hard to ask you to use your car to wait in rather than our lounge with a nice cup of coffee. The clinical staff are doing a magnificent job working behind visors, FFP3 masks and very hot gowns when carrying out AGP’s. The rest of us are wearing masks and visors which makes answering the telephone rather strange, apologies if we all sound a bit muffled.

At the moment we are working at one third of our capacity as we have to leave our surgeries closed for one hour after a procedure then a 15 minute deep clean. This has meant we have had to re-arrange or cancel many pre-booked appointments as the clinicians have all had to reduce and change their days. We are hoping very soon new guidelines will allow us to reduce the downtime which will in turn mean that we can see more patients in a day. Our team members are gradually re-joining us from furlough.

For the foreseeable future until the alert level goes down to level 2 we have to operate a locked front door policy so please bear with us. We are continuing to strive to keep the practice a ‘Blue Zone’ meaning COVID19 free. This means we will carry on triaging by phone and checking your COVID status before you arrive at the practice and then your temperature on arrival. We are trying to keep everything as contactless as possible and encourage you all to complete the forms digitally when we send them to you prior to your appointment and return them to us so we can keep all your records up to date. We are taking payments by card and where possible over the phone prior to your appointment.

We would like to reassure you all that we are taking every precaution to ensure both our patients and our teams’ safety.
