Our Team

We are a private practice with a multi-disciplinary team which includes 7 dentists, both male and female, dental therapists, hygienists and an oral health educator.

Our Dentists

Our team of UK-qualified dentists, headed up by Hassan El-Nashar, the Principal. We participate in ongoing professional development to ensure that we offer the highest standards along with the latest developments in dentistry.

Our Principal Dentist

  • Dr. Hassan El-Nashar B.D.S (LDS RCS Eng) GDC No: 72544

Hassan originally qualified as a Dentist in Cairo in 1977. He moved to England with his family in 1991 and studied at the Bristol Dental School. He obtained his British dental qualification (LDS RCS Eng.) in 1996. He opened El-Nashar Dental Care as a 'one chair' practice in Newton Abbot in 1998. From there he has expanded and developed the practice and achieved many prestigious dental awards along the way from 'Dentist of the Year' ,' Team of the Year' to 'Best contribution to charity and community'. He is passionate about achieving and maintaining high clinical standards and providing outstanding patient care. He leads a large team made up of Dentists, Dental Therapists, Hygienists, Nurses and Patient Care Advisors. He enjoys all aspects of dentistry and has a special interest in Facial Aesthetic treatments which he carries our regularly at the practice. Hassan is a committed family man, involved in raising money for charities both local and abroad. He is a very keen football supporter.

Associate Dentist

  • Joanna Sutcliffe, Associate BDS Brist 1995 MFGDP(UK) 2002 GDC No: 70622

Joanna qualified from Bristol with Honours in 1995. She completed her NHS training in the Lake District and then came to Devon as a Senior House Officer in Oral Surgery at The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. She then spent a year working in New Zealand before returning to Devon to establish a new practice in Exeter where she worked as a partner for 12 years. During that time, she has achieved Diplomas from the Royal College of Surgeons and the University of Bristol in General Dental Practice and General dentistry; including root canal treatment, dental sedation and periodontal care. Her passion for dentistry encouraged her to make life changes and leave practice ownership to continue her studies at the Eastman Dental Institute, Peninsula Dental School and Bristol University. She achieved Diplomas in Dental implants and Restorative dentistry with distinction. She is a clinical supervisor for the dental students at Peninsula Dental School and is finishing her MSc this year. Joanna strives for excellence in her field and believes in working with you and the whole dental team to achieve a healthy mouth that will last for many years helping to keep your natural teeth for as long as possible. She can provide you with comprehensive care for all your needs, in particular sedation for anxious patients, complex ‘mouth rebuilds’, cosmetic treatments and implants. Her key message is about building a relationship centred around mutual trust and respect to ensure you receive individually tailored treatment of the highest calibre. Outside of work, Joanna enjoys all things New Zealand, keeping fit, walking, gardening and taking care of her chickens in her Dartmoor home with her husband and daughter.

Associate Dentist

  • Mark Neal, Associate BDS BHM GDC No: 55953

Mark has worked in general practice in South Devon since 1983. After graduating in 1981 from Birmingham University, he spent a year working in a hospital oral surgery department in the midlands before moving down to Bovey Tracey in 1983 where he helped establish a new dental practice. In 1987 Mark took over the sole ownership of the Bovey practice and worked there until October 2014 when he joined El- Nashar Dental Care as an associate. Mark works in the field of general dentistry but has a particular interest in dental prosthetics.

Associate Dentist

  • Vicky Lee, Associate BDS MFDS RCS Edin GDC No: 81487

Vicky graduated from Glasgow Dental School in 2002. In addition to general dental practice Vicky has spent several years working in oral surgery both at Torbay Hospital and in Perth, Australia. After originally joining our team in 2009 she took some time out to have children and work in Scotland before returning in 2015. Vicky enjoys providing all aspects of adult dentistry and had developed a special interest in orthodontic treatment over the past few years.

Associate Dentist

  • Lesley Anthony, Associate BDS Lond 1977 GDC No: 51538

Lesley grew up in Kingsteignton and studied dentistry in London, graduating in December 1976. She enjoys seeing children and young adult patients and gets great satisfaction when they move into adulthood with good teeth and dental health awareness.

Associate Dentist

  • Lauren Andrews, Associate BChD Leeds 2007

Lauren qualified in Leeds in 2007, where she worked for 3 years. Lauren then moved to Devon 7 years ago after having her first little boy and has worked locally ever since, joining the El-Nashar Team last year. She enjoys all aspects of general practice dentistry with a particular interest in the restorative side.

Associate Dentist

  • Mahir Hussain, BSc (Hons) BDS MFDS RCSEd. GDC No: 264606

Mahir graduated in 2016 from Peninsula Dental School and spent a year in practice in Plymouth before moving on to work in the Oral and Maxillofacial surgery department at Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital. Mahir enjoys all aspects of dentistry, with a particular interest in restorative dentistry, where he wishes to pursue postgraduate or specialist training. He has won prizes for clinical case presentations, audit projects and as an investigator in research. He also enjoys teaching and is a clinical supervisor for dental students at Peninsula Dental School. Outside of dentistry, Mahir is interested in sport, mainly football (big Liverpool fan!), basketball, boxing and mixed martial arts.

Dental Therapist

  • Franchesca White, Dental Therapist Bsc Hons DHDT GDC No: 129178

Fran started her career in dentistry qualifying as a dental nurse in 2005 from this she gained her qualifications in orthodontic nursing and dental radiography. Aspiring to take a more active role in patient care Fran undertook a degree in Dental Hygiene and Therapy qualifying with first-class honours in 2015. As a Dental Therapist her role includes carrying out preventative and restorative treatments for both adults and children. She’s passionate in periodontal care and provides a holistic caring approach to her patients. In 2016 she had a paper published in the British Dental Hygiene Therapy annual journal.

Dental Therapist

  • Sian Baldwin, Dental Therapist Dip HE. Dip Ther RCS GDC No: 128681

Sian has been working in dentistry for over 15 years. She started as a dental assistant and then decided to train to become a Dental Hygienist and Therapist in 2005. As a Dental Therapist her role includes carrying out preventative and restorative treatments for both adults and children. Sian loves working with people and particularly enjoys helping patients with more advanced gum problems to achieve better oral health. She has a calm and gentle approach which helps to reassure our more anxious patients.

Dental Therapist

  • Kate Coker, Dental Therapist Bsc DHDT GDC No: 182752

Kate has over 10 years’ experience in both general and community dentistry. She started as a dental nurse and returned to education in 2015 and qualified with a first class honours degree. As a Dental Therapist her role includes carrying out preventative and restorative treatments for both adults and children. Kate particularly enjoys working with children and nervous adults. She has a calm and gentle approach which helps to build patient confidence.

Our Hygienist

  • Sharon Stanley, Dental Hygienist EDH 1994 GDC No: 4692

Our Hygienist Sharon qualified from London Guy’s Hospital in 1994. She worked in London for several years before moving to Devon in 2009 when she joined our team. Sharon specializes in preventative dental health care and treatment of gum disease. She particularly likes working with patients showing them correct home care techniques and helping them to understand how they can make a difference to keeping their teeth and gums healthy.

Our Dental Nurses

Our team of trained nurses is headed up by Katie and Hannah our Nurse Managers. Each nurse has an ongoing personal development plan and a specific area of responsibility such as radiography, oral health or sedation to ensure that we provide excellence in clinical care.

Nurse Manager

  • Katie Hutchings, Nurse Manager GDC No: 134135

Katie started her nursing career in 2003 and joined the El-Nashar family in 2006. She is qualified in dental radiography, impression taking and trained in dental implants and sedation. In 2010 she won a national award for Dental Nurse of the year. She is married and has 2 daughters.

Nurse Manager

  • Hannah Maynard, Nurse Manager GDC No: 206343

Hannah qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2010 and gained her Dental Radiography qualification in 2013. She is experienced in general dentistry as well as specific areas such as implants, sedation and radiography. Hannah is also our De-Contamination Lead working through policies & procedures and regular validation and testing. Alongside Katie she is responsible for the smooth daily running of the surgeries.

All members of our team are committed to ensuring that our patients receive service excellence at all times, from booking an appointment through to enjoying a friendly and relaxed environment whilst visiting the practice. We constantly strive to improve our service and facilities and welcome feedback at all times.

Practice Manager

  • Kelly Harnett, Practice Manager GDC No: 128759

Kelly has over 18 years experience within dentistry and is clinically trained. Her role as Practice Manager is to oversee and manage the day to day running of the practice. Kelly prides herself on ensuring that top quality patient care is delivered at all stages of the patient journey.

Front of House manager

  • Tiffany Reading, Front of House Manager GDC No: 190364

Tiffany qualified as a dental nurse in 2009. She has gained experience in all aspects of dentistry over the years. She now leads our Patient Care team to ensure the smooth daily running of the reception and making sure that we are offering our patients the best possible service. Tiffany is always on hand to answer any patients queries or concerns.

Our Treatment Co-Ordinator

  • Katherine King, Treatment Co-Ordinator GDC No: 125336

Our treatment co-ordinator, Katherine, has 15 years' experience as a dental nurse and offers free consultations to patients who would like to find out more about the services and treatments we offer.

  • Aside from having to have a filling done, a trip to El Nashar is always a nice experience. You're always give a great welcome by the reception staff, there are free teas and coffees in the comfy, quiet waiting room and Lauren the dentist is really lovely - always makes the time to chat and great at putting you at ease before the toothy business. Definitely recommended
